We are a GOOD school providing OUTSTANDING personal development for our pupils! Ofsted November 2022
Our School
Celebrating!
We have been named in the Times 2023 top 500 schools in the country list. Out of all state primary schools in the North of England, we are ranked 7th, and we are the highest ranked primary school out of all Catholic primary schools within the Diocese of Leeds! This is a fantastic achievement for our whole school community and it is lovely to have the external recognition that the staff and children deserve for their continued hard work and dedication to learning.
About our school
Set in a North Yorkshire village, within easy reach of Leeds, York and Selby, the school enjoys an excellent reputation locally. It serves the Parish of St Joseph The Worker, Sherburn In Elmet. It is the only school in the village of Barkston Ash and therefore also serves the local community.
The school was built in 1856 at a cost of £212 and has grown to meet the needs of the community it serves.
The building comprises a school hall, also used as a dining room, adjacent kitchen, five classrooms, cloaks/toilet facilities, and a well-stocked library area. There is also a Headteacher's Office, Secretary's Office and Staffroom. An ongoing development programme for the building is in place.
The school has a playground, which is marked out for various games, a grassed area which is used for sporting activities, and a play area.
Opening and closing times
Registration is at 9am and the school day ends at 3.15pm (totalling 31.25 hours per week)
We will meet the Government expectation, set out in the White Paper, that state-funded mainstream schools will provide a school week of at least 32.5 hours by September 2023.
